Billy Elliot the Musical is set against the backdrop of the Miner's Strike which took place during 1984 and 1985. The story focuses on a young boy called Billy Elliot who is growing up in a northern mining town where the Strike is having an effect on all who live there. His father wishes for his son to be more like a man and follow him and his brother into the world of mining but Billy isn't really interested. His frustrated father pays for his youngest to take up boxing lessons but whilst learning how to bout, he is distracted by a group of girls having a ballet lesson. So enthralled by what they are doing, he decides to join in where his passion for dancing explodes with amazing results!
