The show is based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, America's Founding Father. Orphaned as a boy, he moved to New York in the hope of a better life. While in America he becomes George Washington's right-hand-man, falls in love, and goes on to become the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.
The Hamilton score by Lin-Manuel Miranda features a fusion of songs that combine hip-hop, R&B, soul and classical musical theatre numbers, while the musical is entirely sung (and rapped) by the entire cast.
