The Tour de France is over for another year and what an exciting race it was - the battle between Vingegaard & Pogacar as well as the fight for third spot kept us entertained.

The Tour de France 2024 will start in Florence, Italy, and as a change to the norm the Tour will colminate in a grand finale in Nice, as Paris will be hosting the Olympic Games.

Approximately 200 cyclists take part in the race, each one competing in a team of of up to nine riders. There 21 stages over 23 days and the cyclists usually cover 3,500 km (2175 miles).

Each stage has a winner and the rider that completes the stages in the overall shortest amount of time goes on to win the 'Tour de France'.

The reason why the race is so colourful is because various achievements are marked with a different coloured jersey. The yellow jersey (maillot jaune) is worn by the cyclist who has accumulated the least amount of time per day or the race leader. The green jersey (maillot vert) is given to the cyclist with the most sprint points. The white jersey is worn by the most impressive rider 25 years or under. Finally, the polka dot jersey (maillot a pois) is for the cyclist who is the first to make it to the top of the mountain stages.

Previous Winners of the Tour de France:
2023 -Jonas Vingegaard - Denmark
2022 -Jonas Vingegaard - Denmark
2021- Tadej Pogacar - Slovenia

Each competitor of the Tour de France belongs to a team of 9 cyclists comprising of one "leader" and eight domestiques. The domestiques' role is to protect the leader, from wind and provide the leader with food and drinks, ensuring the leader is victorious.
