Llandudno - an introduction

Llandudno is affectionately known to most as the Queen of Welsh resorts but its recognition stretches much further than its borders. The English naturist, Charles Darwin, visited Llandudno for part of the 1820's and the popular holiday resort was where author Lewis Carroll fell in love with a girl called Alice, who later became the main character in the famous children's story 'Alice In Wonderland'. For a journey with a difference take a ride on the UK's longest cable car, add a multitude of retail stores with a unique combination of Victorian style and Edwardian elegance and two sunbathe-friendly sandy beaches, and it's easy to see why Llandudno Wales is one of the most popular coach holiday resorts in the UK.

Stroll along Llandudno's crescent promenade or take the hand of your loved one and see the sights upon the longest Pier in Wales then take the weight off your tired feet by savouring a cream tea in the award-winning Victoria Shopping Centre tearoom. No holiday to Llandudno would be complete without a ride on the resort's famous tramway that allows you to see the sights and delights without having to walk too far. At over a hundred years old, the tramway offers an old-fashioned ride up to Llandudno's summit where you can enjoy panoramic views of Llandudno, Little Orme, the Conwy Estuary and maybe even a glimpse of Puffin Island and Snowdonia if you're lucky.

For those looking for some adrenalin-pumping action, head for the slopes and try your hand at sno-tubing or throw on your walking boots and go for a hike through Snowdonia's National Park. Spend the night at the theatre, explore a copper mine dating back to the Bronze Age or enter the world of Art with a visit to Mostyn contemporary art gallery. Llandudno Wales is home to two Blue Flag beaches, the North Shore is a mixture of sand and shingle and is very popular with holidaymakers compared to the quieter West Shore, another beautiful sandy beach just asking for sandcastles to adorn it!

Take a coach to Llandudno starting from only £99 per person and each holiday package includes: return coach travel, accommodation in a quality hotel (except self-drive), meals and excursions depending on the duration of the tour.

We're here to offer a little inspiration for you when considering coach holidays to Llandudno. Here is just a snippet of what you can see and do whilst in North Wales:

Llandudno Pier
Constructed in 1878, the Pier is a prominent symbol of Victorian and Edwardian elegance. Stretching a massive 1234ft into the Irish Sea, the Llandudno pier is the longest pier in Wales. The pier has two amusement arcades, in addition to a number of stalls and food and drink outlets; offering the traditional seaside favourites like candy floss, doughnuts, rock  and ice-cream.

Great Orme Tramway
No visit to the seaside town of Llandudno is complete without a short ride on the Great Orme Tramway. Opened in 1902, this is the only cable-hauled tramway still operating on the public roads in Britain. The Tramway takes you to the summit of Great Orme (679 ft high), offering stunning views across Snowdonia and Anglesey.

RSPB Conwy Nature Reserve
Located on the banks of the Conwy estuary, this reserve is a great place to visit all year round. Not only can you observe local wildlife in their natural environment, make sure you drop into the Visitor Centre and find out more about the wildlife you might see. Stop for a bite to eat in the Waterside Coffee Shop that overlooks the lagoon.

Snowdonia National Park
Llandudno is very near to the border of Snowdonia National Park, which covers over 823 sq miles and is the largest open space to be found in Wales. The National Park is also home to Mount Snowdon, in addition to a number of picturesque villages such as Beddgellert and Betws-y-Coed.

To help you have an enjoyable holiday in Llandudno, please take a look at these useful tips and advice provided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office:

Health and Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is recommended by all our tour operators and for some operators it is a condition of booking. When choosing a travel insurance please ensure it fully covers all your personal requirements including pre-existing medical conditions, cancellation charges, medical expenses, and repatriation in the event of accident or illness. As a British citizen you will obviously be entitled to free emergency health care on the NHS.

If you are visiting England from outside the United Kingdom and fall ill or are involved in an accident and are from an EU country or Switzerland, you can use a valid EHIC issued by your home country to access healthcare. Please note this is not an alternative to travel insurance.  Comprehensive travel insurance is advised for nationalities planning on visiting the UK.

If you need to contact the emergency services whilst in the UK simply dial 999 or 112 to ask for an ambulance.

Crime
The United Kingdom is a safe place to visit, however, as with all countries please exercise common sense. Petty crime can occur so take your usual precautions such as not leaving luggage unattended, beware of pickpockets in tourist areas and leave valuables in the hotel safe.

Local Laws and Customs
Queuing is a British Institution - jump a queue at your own risk!

If you are visiting from outside of the United Kingdom, it is wise to check customs requirements before you travel. If you are planning to bring alcohol, tobacco or souvenirs into the country, you need to be familiar with the UK's custom laws. If you go over your allowances, you may have to pay tax or duty. It is worth checking the HM Revenues and Customs website before you travel.

UK Entry Requirements
When travelling between the UK, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man you may need to show a Border Force officer a document confirming your identity. In most cases an official form of identification such as a driver's license or an armed forces identity card will be ok. However, some airlines will insist you show a passport so please check before you travel.

If you’re from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein you can enter the UK with one of the following identity documents: a passport, an Irish passport card or a national identity card issued by an EU country, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, if you’re eligible to use one. The identity document should be valid for the whole of your stay.

If you’re from outside the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you must have a valid passport to enter the UK. It should be valid for the whole of your stay. You may also need a visa, depending on which country you’re from. Please check here if a visa is required before you travel.

Rumour often has it that author Lewis Caroll met Alice Liddell (who inspired his Alice in Wonderland) in Llandudno. While this is a myth, it is likely that Alice may have read the books while on holiday in the town.
